Hi! This week we are talking about our Parents! (I'm sorry about running a day late!) How about joining
Morgan and I, and tell us about your parents?

My mom, Vivian, was born in Suffolk, VA on November 29, 1952. Her father passed away when she was very young, as did her first step-dad. Her second step-father was the only grandfather that I ever knew. My mom was the youngest of four girls. She married just out of high school and had a daughter and a son. I don't remember how long she was married, but he was abusive towards her. She left him a couple of times, but he always persuaded her to come back. The one and only time that he turned it towards my older brother (my brother tried to step in to protect my mom and his father shoved him across the room), my mom left him for good. I don't remember exactly when that was. But, a little down the road one of her best friend's introduced her to my dad! My Mom has worked since she was young in various ways. She has run a home daycare, worked as a teacher's aide, and now works as the secretary at the local children's advocacy center. My mom is a hard-working woman who loves and puts her family first. When my grandmother (my mom's mom) was bad off (shortly before she passed), my mom was one of two sisters that stepped up and took care of my grandmother. She was there to go sit with her, take her to doctor's appointments and various other things while having a husband and kids of her own to take care of! My mom really backs my Dad, siblings and I! My mom has been there for everything, all the good times and all the bad. She is amazing when it comes to giving advice! My mom is a giving and loving person, even when it leaves her with nothing for herself. She has been Mom and Dad while Dad was on cruises in the Navy, my teacher, and my best friend. She home-schooled my younger sister and I for a year. She is a truly wonderful Mom and an even better Grandmother. She has been a Mom to four kids and a Grandmother to 8 grand-kids! She may not always agree with the things that we do, but she is always there for us. My mom has always been one of the people that can make anything better for me!

My dad, Rick, was born in Texas on September 22, 1959. He never knew his dad, but was raised by his mom. He also lived with his Aunt and Uncle for his junior and senior year. He was on his high school football team. He, then, joined the US Navy right after high school where he served for 22 years. It was while serving in the Navy and being stationed in Norfolk, VA that he met my mom. He chose not to just date my mom, but to be a father to her first two kids. My older sister and brother will tell you to this day, that he has been more of a Dad to them than their own father was. Due to his time in the Navy, we moved back and forth between Texas and Virginia and went a few months at a time without seeing him. But, I am proud to say that my Dad served in our military to protect us. After retiring in early 1999/late 2000, he found a job at the railroad in Virginia until he made the decision to move us back to Texas June 2000, so we could be near his family. After moving to Texas, he found a job at General Shelters. He has since moved to Port-a-Cool and back to General Shelters. My dad has always been a hard-working man, but not a work-a-holic. He is very slow to anger, but when you make him mad, he will let you know it. He is very easily embarrassed! He doesn't say much, but my dad has always been there for us. He's taught me to work hard at whatever I choose to do. He's always pushed hard and been there to support us. He is a great dad and a wonderful grandfather.

My parents at my Wedding in 2007.
My parents were married December 19, 1981 and have been happily (mostly!) married ever since. They have raised four kids (for the most part!) together! They have EIGHT grand-kids together! I am very thankful for my wonderful parents! They are a huge blessing in my life!

Next week, we are talking about our Siblings!!
I can't say that I really know your dad but he seems like a very nice man and I just love your mom - she is always so sweet and kind.
